'via' Return

Hi all,

Looking to go from Leeds to Milton Keynes (out on the 27th, return on the 28th), but was just wondering if I set my ticket to go via London with an Off Peak Return, am I able to have a few hours in London on the Friday?

Also, on the return journey would I be able to just get whichever trains go Milton Keynes - Leeds without going to London?

All Anytime and most Off Peak tickets allow a "break of journey" on the outward (always on the return), which can be for as long as you like provided that any travel is completed within the ticket's validity (i.e. until 0429 the next day on the out, within a month on the return). Both Off Peak and Super Off Peak tickets for Leeds-Milton Keynes allow break of journey, so yes you are fine to stop off en-route.

The ticket types for this journey are routed either Not Via London, or +Any Permitted. The latter allows you to go via London or other Permitted Routes such as via Manchester or Tamworth, so would give you flexibility. If you only want to travel via London in one direction, you should tell the ticket office this and you should be sold (if not ask for it) a Not Via London Off Peak Return with a "change of route excess" to +Any Permitted in one direction. This will cost half the difference between the Not Via London ticket (£97.80 undiscounted) and either the Off Peak or Super Off Peak Return +Any Permitted (£191.10 / £120.90). The excess can be bought after the ticket as well.
