I have a day trip to Nuremberg with my brother tomorrow and I just need some clarification on weather the VGN day tickets (the 19.10EUR one) are valid on the regional express services?

The website states not valid on IC or ICE so I'm guessing it will be valid.

I'm also looking for suggestions of interesting routes/place to visit in the area, I have been trying to make a circular route but all the ones I can come up with are 3hrs or so.

Thanks.

Yes, perfectly fine on RE services. Just not on the IC & ICE services as you've noted.

Enjoy!:D

Erlangen, Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Regensberg are nice.

Regensburg is off limits, but Bamberg is also worth it I believe and within the area. The Pegnitz valley route is good scenery, and there are lines both sides of the river at the Nuremberg end (but IIRC the best bits are up towards Bayreuth.

We ended up going to Bayreuth which I would probably rate higher than Nuremburg itself. Some great bits of scenery between Holdenstadt and Newhaus. Some interesting infrastructure around as Well, lots of flying junctions! Will definatley visit again soon perhaps with about more than 10 hours to explore.
