We were out in West Wales yesterday on a "West Wales Day Ranger" with the aim of incorporating the (SO) FGW HST to Pembroke Dock as well as the ATW services.
A few enthusiasts on the train, quite a few linesiding but the train crew were really great and totally "made" the day. All of them had an almost "holiday-like" attitude, the Guard/Train Manager giving full explanations of stopping for the token exchanges, which coaches would be off the platform at the small stations on the branch, which side the relevant doors would be on and all were great ambassadors for FGW. Special mention to the on-board buffet staff who were the best I have ever met. Rarely have I got off a service train feeling like I was on a railtour but this was one. Professional service all the way combined with a friendly and helpful approach.
Well done FGW!
