Hi there. Has anyone else did this telephone test recently for Network Rail. I scored 93% in the test and 5 days later i was told i was unsuccessful WTF !!!! - A total waste of time if you can score in the 90's and not even get a face to face interview.

I've sat it twice and never failed it, but I can only assume with the job market the way it is, they may have increased their pass benchmark, which is a bit unfair.

What do you have to do on this test?

You have to repeat a sentence i.e - mary had a little lamb or Mrs Thatcher was a lovely woman who hated the working classes..things like that.

Then your asked a question like - Do you think a parent should tell a child to eat vegetables or should it be up to the child......Just the sort of test you need when your out on the track at 11pm ( job was a track operative) and that sort of thing will come into your head eh

I imagine the test is to see if you have the required verbal communication skills. In that sort of an environment you will be given messages to relay to others and you'll have no time to write it down, and it'll have to be word for word.

The second question seems like a red herring to me to see how you cope under pressure, I would suspect there is no right or wrong answer to it. More like they wanted to judge your response times and how confident you were of your answer.

Better luck next time and keep trying! :)

I think to be honest, the two events are probably unconnected - I've passed the test with 100% on a few occasions & sometimes that's as far as the application has gone. At other times, I've then been invited for an assessment (which I've passed on each attempt, with flying colours) - and then not had an interview. Finally, I've gone through the whole process & had very positive interviews, and still not got the bloody job - it's just luck of the draw! :)
