VeloViewer - anyone else use it?

Morning all,

Recently I had a look at VeloViewer as I’ve wanting to see if it’s actually much use for me and my cycling. One benefit I could swear there is for me is a lifetime map showing which roads I’ve done, however I can’t find it on the free sample of VeloViewer that it’s given me.

I’ll happily pay money to have access to more features, many of which I don’t really need, if I can get this map as I’m really curious what it looks like. I have my paper maps from Sustrans, which I’m happy with, however a digital map would be useful too.

Does anyone here use VeloViewer and have any recommendations for it? So far I’m struggling to see how it’s worth the £10 a year but I’d like to find out if I’m just being daft and missing the obvious.

VeloViewer is good for Strava segment analysis - or making you feel good if you've positioned well on the leaderboards. It's also the easiest way I've found to export all Strava activity data in useable CSV format. For lifetime activity map - click "Activities" tab and then "Map" on right hand side. It lets you plot against OS 1:50k and 1:25k which is pretty cool. I think the free trial will only process 100 or so activities rather than full history.

For heatmaps (on OpenStreetMap) and generic stats, the free site StatsHunters does much the same (again scraping from Strava)

Another site you might like to try is Wandrer.earth which plots foot and cycle activities against openstreetmap data and calculates % complete for different areas - and gives a leaderboard for the competitive. It doesn't do a true heatmap, just completed mapped rights of way, but it has benefit of not being tied to Strava only. I think it's free to use for all future activities, but only takes 30 most recent unless you pay 30$/yr

I'm not sure I get £10/yr use out of VeloViewer but let that and Wandrer subscriptions run on as it's a fraction of the price of Netflix and far more worthwhile.

Paid Veloviewer does give you a lifetime map - I think on the free preview it limits it to using your most recent X rides. I can DM you a screenshot.

I mainly use it for the tile bagging function - basically it divides the world into 1 mile squares and it's fun to get new ones as you travel!

Thanks both, very useful

I have given Wandrer a go, it looks quite funky and I might well pay the subscription for it. My most recent 50 activities are on there, both as you say for walking and cycling, when I inevitably add the rest it will be very different on both maps!

I’ll continue having a look at VeloViewer soon, maybe I just missed the map last time.

@telstarbox You might also like Squadrats, it does similar with the tiles thing. I use that too, someone here got me onto it and I’ve honestly forgot their username. Might be worth a look
