VBB/partial fares in Germany

Evening all

I need to travel from Berlin Hbf to Putlitz Bahnhof on 22 July, returning on July 24. One of the fares available is called as a VBB fare, and another is listed as a 'partial fare', which only covers services operated by DB.

Which services are VBB fares valid, and which privately-operated services are DB fares valid on?

Thanks, although the DB travel planner also quotes a 1-way fare of 34 Euros for itineraries that involve travel on EC or IC services. I'm assuming VBB fares only allow travel on RE, RB, S-Bahn and U-Bahn services?

I'll have a look later. Take it you mean the db site. Most things are explained on the site, but the German language version does have maps of the länder and extra information on regional tickets.

VBB is a local transport authority. These set the fares for travel within their boundaries, travel fare including most local transport (ie not IC ) and is door to door. Tickets are usually only obtained locally.
Alternative is the long distance or db fare eg sparpreis (advance ticket) that only includes the train but not the local stadtbahn /bus.

Correct, with a handful of exceptions which aren't relevant to your journey.

You probably know, but there is a chance of doing the last section from Pritzwalk by train - if you can leave Berlin by lunchtime - an unforgettable experience. And AFAIK it ceases to run at the end of the month.

The return trip to Pritzwalk is by Rufbus - ie dial-a-ride.

So it seems, and if I read the Wiki article correctly they are severing it immediately because of a new crossing. Shame - that way it won't come back. I remember riding this line in an old Schienenbus in 2000, and it was threatened even then.

Regarding fares, is it not usual that the DB fare is only valid in Verkehrsverbuende where the journey crosses into or out of the Verbund, or where the Verbund ticket would not be valid i.e. IC/ICE? Or is that not consistent by Verbund?

Thanks, it appears the only way to request Rufbus is to contact VBB. As I speak very little German I hope the agent at the other end can understand some English!

Or ask a friend - I presume you aren't spending 48hours in Putlitz alone?!

The linked article in the Märkische Allgemeine local paper is wonderfully evocative. I think the LC at Pritzwalk West needs renewing. That said, the B189 Kuhbier bypass (what a name! Can I add it to the station names thread...?) has a bridge over the line - it was still being constructed when I visited in 2013, so a LC should be trivial by comparison. But the money would be better spent on the bus service, if that's not heresy.

You would need a ticket to Putlitz anyway, which is 16 euros if you take the RE6 from Gesundbrunnen and change at Pritzwalk.

However there is also a VBB whole network day ticket for 21 euros, which I believe would be valid for unlimited travel within Berlin and Brandenburg on the same day before you go to Putlitz (i.e. from the airport, if you're arriving that way).

I used this a few weeks ago but I think I got scammed by a DB ticket inspector who said a day ticket was only valid in one direction and forced me to buy a new single ticket. Unfortunately my spoken German is not good enough to argue with an RPI and funnily enough nobody speaks English when you need them to

Thanks for the link to the train timetable, I'll find that most useful. It's also worth knowing that the VBB day ticket also includes Putlitz, as I'm planning on looking round Berlin before heading to the festival.

Or you could ask the festival info people - given there is an English website, I imagine they could cope. And I doubt you'll be the only one leaving on the Sunday. ...

VBB=Verkehrsverbund berlin-Brandenburg and covers the whole of that province=land.It has 2 types ofspecial daytickets:
that of 21 eur is for a single person and on mo-fr ONLY valid from 9.00, so it may have been that If you had started before that time it was just a normal single of that price.
The other is the landesticket for 5 persons, cost about 29 eur (or more now) and is also valid slightly larger area, incl to Szczecin in PL (incl local citytrams/bus there).
Most people are satisfied with smaller areas-by zones, with special rules for in/around the larger cities, incl. Berlin. These are valid from start till end of service.
