Hello all,

I am doing a activity pack for BrisCard v5 for the Valley lines parts (Aberdare/Treherbert/Merthyr/Coryton/Rhymney) and wondered if there has been any odd unit or loco workings that people might know of between 2005 and the current year.

I know the Ebbw Vale line has seen a variety already but has any of the 153s, 158s or 175s been up the valleys? I know the usual 37 turns have been up the Rhymney line but has any other odd loco turn been up here on passenger or freight to Tower/Cwmbargoed?

I doubt there has much but it's worth asking in case something like a tug has been up to Cwmbargoed or maybe even the 121 has ventured further?

Cheers,

James.

Sorry to drag this up but i know ATW did trial a class 175 on route to Rhymney ( This was in the Railway magazine a few years ago). I also know that a class 158 has been to Coryton & Radyr, dont think any have been north of Taffs well. I think a class 60 has been to Tower not sure about Cwmbargoed though.

60s have been to Cwmbargoed on Numerous occasions, usually with the Port Talbot Grange Sdgs - Cwmbargoed MEA working.

As for the units, 158, 153s and 175s are not cleared North of Radyr... but the 158s were used on Cory-Radyr services fairly frequently up until Winter 2006. 153s still turn up on the City line services, but most Valleys drivers no longer sign 158s so they dont venture away from the mainline.

Unusual working would be 37417 working to/from Merthyr Tydfil a few years back for its naming, although I fail to recall when that was exactly. 2004/2005 I should think.

56114 worked one of the Rhymney passenger turns on 7th May 2003 despite 56s not being cleared for that route beyond Bargoed.

A 158 was trailled on the Ryhmney branch in the late 1990s. One Coryton service per day was diagrammed for a 158 in the Winter 2003 timetable.

Going further back in time the Taff Talisman railtour (3rd October 1992 with 37222 and 37223) visited Penarth, Treherbert, Coryton, Bute Road (as it was called then), Rhymney and Barry Island.
