I'm currently planning a visit to see my family, travelling on new year's Day, and am going to be going from Pontypridd over to the east Midlands. From Cardiff, to Birmingham and then to east Midlands, there are trains showing on national rail enquires, but for pontypridd to Cardiff, it is showing one single train on new year's Day, at 17:24.

Is this likely to be the entire NY day timetable, are there likely to be any trains running in the morning on NYD, or am I going to have to think about biking down the valleys, or paying through the roof for a taxi?

National rail enquiries says:
Engineering work is taking place between Pontypridd and Merthyr Tydfil, and between Abercynon and Aberdare. Buses will replace trains between Pontypridd and Aberdare, and between Pontypridd and Merthyr Tydfil.

Which implies to me there should be trains running on the rest of the line.

Ignore my previous reply, there won't be anything:
Saturday 01/01 no train or rail replacement bus services across local Cardiff
and Valleys network.

From https://tfw.wales/sites/default/files/2021-11/Rail replacement bus Monthly poster_Dec21-ONLINE.pdf

You might want to try the T4 or X4 bus, but no idea if they'll be running.

Nope, no luck: https://www.stagecoachbus.com/promos-and-offers/south-wales/chistmas-service-arrangements-2021
Saturday 1 January 2022 New Year's Day - no service

If tfw follow the previous operating company in previous years there will be no valley services.

So why is a rogue 1724 Pontypridd -> Cardiff (1651 Aberdare -> Barry Island) service seemingly showing in the New Year's Day timetable?

Maybe it just hasn't been removed from the timetable yet?

Wouldn't be the first time rogue trains have remained on the timetable when they should have been removed or changed (especially for engineering works)

There's a random one-way evening working from Cardiff Bay too!
