Valley Lines

Planning to do some of the Valley Lines routes -

First visited South Wales last year, when I went to Merthyr Tydfil and was impressed with the scenery.

So the question is what is the best branch with the best scenary, visible by train and then somewhere where I can have a nice walk afterwards? Rhymney, Treherbert or Aberdare?

Anyone with local knowledge know what to look out for and some info about the lines?
