Hello,

If a bus operator is using a vehicle on a contracted bus service where the vehicle is owned by the local authority, should the V5 document be registered to the operator, or can it remain with the local authority?

Many thanks

V5 is an ownership document so will be local authority named on it. Same with lease or hired vehicles, eg it will be Dawson rentals named on v5 not ABC buses etc

Thanks for the response. I thought there was a section on the V5 that said ‘registered keeper of the vehicle is not necessarily the vehicle owner’.

The registered keeper in this case would be the bus operator. There would be separate contract paperwork relating to the ownership of the vehicles.

In the case of leased vehicles it may be the other way round as it is considered a temporary arrangement.
