Using Southern Daysave at other TOC managed stations

What have been your experiences of using Southern Daysave when using a station managed by another TOC that Southern serves?

I'm thinking in-particular the London Overground managed stations on the ELL (New Cross Gate to West Croydon/Crystal Palace) and SWT, also the London Midland stations on Southern's WLL service.

I'd like to be able to travel from Forest Hill using Daysave, but don't fancy being refused entry if a LO gateline assistant tells me it's not valid here.

I'd take a print out of the terms and conditions to show if you run in to any trouble. It is valid on all Southern services (bar time restrictions) and as such should be valid from any station which is served by Southern.

If all else fails, I'd say buy a cheap paper ticket in order to gain access and then write to Southern about the issue.

The validity field on the ticket is shown as 'Any Southern Train' - so if the station has a Southern service I can't imagine a problem. If you were trying to gain access to a station that only had an LO service that is another matter.

If you have any problems at a station such as Forest Hill, please ensure that a complaint is made, copy it to Southern, and chase it up with Passenger Focus, and please let me know if it's not resolved, as LO are not in my good books at the moment. Incorrect actions by LO need to be dealt with appropriately and robustly.

no Issues at all using these tickets at Fareham or Portsmouth stations (swt).
Note that they don't work the barriers anywhere

I went from Milton Keynes to Portsmouth and around that way once. I had the peak one that covered anytime travel, at Milton Keynes, I went straight through the manual barrier no problems at all, the guy didn't question anything. Doubled back to Victoria to grab food and going through the barrier both ways I was questioned separately about my ticket, not the validity of a day save, but the fact it was before 10am even though it said peak or something on it, meaning I could travel in the peaks of course. I also had to point it out both times. The SWT guys at Portsmouth and Southsea station were fine though, as we're the guys at Brighton.

So actually my only problem was with the Southern staff.

Used the similar Southern All Network Downlander, which is self-print, about half a dozen times with no issues along the South Coast, but a few responses elsewhere...

1) Joining at Milton Keynes Central a London Midland revenue guy didn't have a problem with it but having never seen one before wanted to take it away to photocopy for further research but realised there wasn't enough time before my train (the one an hour we get most of Mon-Sat).

2) Joining at Gatwick the gate person said they'd never seen one before but let me through [was using one as no evening peak restrictions unlike the Daysave]

3) On a train from Brighton (4 of us on one ticket) towards East Clapham asked the ticket checker how many he saw of them - said one or two a week!

Have to admit don't use them so much anymore after the massive 32% price hike this year.
(The Daysave for groups of 4 for £28 remains rather attractive if you can cope with evening restrictions.)

As others have suggested I do take a printout of the T&Cs just to help if needed.

I considered using a Downloader last year (before the price hike) and did wonder what it would be like joining at MKC. My problem was that I couldn't get back to Milton Keynes late enough (the last Southern arriving back at 19:00) so I didn't end up using it. The price rise seems unreasonable though.

Back onto the topic of DaySave... I do wonder why the Southern Website, when clicking 'Buy DaySave tickets', links to the Mixing Desk, displaying no available fares, when the link actually needed is to this page here...

That's the only draw back for me, the lack of trains getting back to MK. I'm tempted to do it with a Euston-MK single next time, or one to my local station.

Looking at NRE, the final direct Southern service to MKC arrives at 2101 Mon-Fri, 1900 on Sat.

Aye, but to get back to Milton Keynes for 21:01 one must leave Brighton significantly before one has finished a days worth of drinking
