Using Network Railcard just after 10 starting short

I want to travel on the above train on a weekday using a London to Audley End Off Peak Return, and making use of the Network discount.

Can I take the tube to Tottenham Hale and board the train there, even the ticket implies I boarded before 10am?

The Network Railcard discount is not valid "for travel before 10.00hrs" (except if there is an easement), so it's clearly valid for you to travel from 10.07.

If the 09:55 was delayed and departed Liverpool Street at 10:00 or later it would also be valid; unlike ticket restrictions, the Network Railcard time restriction is not based on the train's timed departure time, but rather the time you are actually travelling.

The same applies to the Gold Card time restriction, although not to all Railcards, if I remember correctly. When the Gold Card time restriction was still 10:00 I used to reasonably often find myself on the platform at Reading next to the delayed 09:55 departure for Paddington. If the clock got to about 09:59:45 I would hop on, as I knew the doors wouldn't be closed and travel started before 10:00, when my Gold Card-discounted outboundary Travelcard would become valid.

Although, only once, I have been questioned about my use of the 0959 departure to Hastings with a Network Railcard. It seems that Rye station allow use of the card on the 0955/0956 departures even though there seems to be no easement.

This is different to many Off Peak ticket conditions, which often (though not always) specify that tickets are not valid for trains "timed to depart" before a certain time. For example, a Winchelsea to York Super Off Peak Return would be valid on any train to London, and then on any train from King's Cross except those " timed to depart" at the times specified.

I seem to recall we had a thread a while back where others said that some locations appear to have undocumented easements allowing the use of trains before 1000 but which are not listed on the Network Railcard website.

Buy your ticket online. collect it from the TVM at Tottenham Hale 10:01. It will have 10:01 printed on the ticket.

Its about time we had a Marshlink Railcard ( I live equal distance between Rye and Appledore) but in the meantime consider the Pevensey Bay to Pevensey Annual season key. 34% off over the Gold Card Area after 9.30 (mon to fri) no minimum fare, another railcard for £10, discounts off Rye Plus Bus tickets when bought with a ticket from Winchelsea. Not a bad package for £164 pa.

Interesting idea about Gold Card. If only they threw in some free tickets. Probably considerably less than £164 this year with all the compensation refunds.
