Dear All,

Just after some advice regarding the use of Megatrain tickets and onward journeys.

I have a Megatrain ticket for this Saturday from Waterloo to Southampton Central which I got for a bargain price of £5.I have decided that in fact I would like to go beyond Southampton Central and see some friends at Lymington Town.

To clarify, can I use my Megatrain ticket to Southampton & then ask the guard to sell me a day return from Southampton to Lymington Town when He comes around for the ticket check during the journey?

I am hoping that I can do this and remain on the same train rather than having to alight at Southampton & wait for the next train.

Any advice appreciated

Thank you

That's definitely valid, but you may find it more convenient to buy the SOU to LYT ticket before starting the journey, I am sure they would sell it to you at Waterloo. Otherwise you'd need to ask the Guard, which may be a problem if for whatever reason you don't find them before Southampton!

If your Megatrain ticket to Southampton is on the Poole service, you're possibly better off changing at Southampton onto the following Bournemouth train. The Poole stopper has around 15 mins dwell there for the following Bournemouth to overtake it, and it's the Bournemouth services that connect well with the Lymington shuttle.

I suppose it depends if you really want to stop at all shacks to Brockenhurst or not...

I would echo this advice. Buy your Lymington tickets before you start your journey, then you don't have to worry about having to find the guard before Southampton.

If you travel beyond Southampton without a ticket, you will be liable for a Penalty Fare. If you do not obtain your Lymington ticket before arriving at Southampton, you must disembark and purchase it there.

You could also buy a ticket from Southampton to Lymington online, and pick it up from the machine at Waterloo (or any other convenient station) before you start your journey.
