Using FIP in Italy

Hi does anyone have any tips of using your FIP card in Italy? How does it work regarding booking longer distance services, do some services now require compulsory reservations due to Covid? If anyone has travelled there over the last few months by train I'd appreciate your input. Thx for any suggestions

When we last travelled it worked out cheaper to book public advanced purchase fares for the high speed and intercity trains, the FIP fare for those is global rate and coupons are only valid for the 'Regionale' trains. Italy is a bit of a difficult place to use FIP these days.
