Using Caledonian Sleeper To Catch Eurostar

The last time I used the CS to catch a Eurostar service was at least five years ago know so my mind is completely blank as to which tickets etc I bought!

I'm looking to travel from either Dumbarton Central or Glasgow Central to Euston in a First Class berth and I seem to remember that for connections to Eurostar you can buy a special type of ticket which offers different conditions of carriage in the event of delays? Looking at the new CS website there doesn't seem to be any way to book this.

Can anyone help with the cheapest way to do this while using 1st Class?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What you want is a ticket to London International (CIV). I don't think you can book this on the CS site, however if you buy a first class 'day' ticket you can then buy the sleeper supplement on the site separately.

The new CS website is certainly good for everything except booking tickets! I'm guessing that without the CIV type ticket I have less sway with Eurostar if anything goes wrong?

According to this

there is a CIV option on the sleeper only fares (complete with the + to allow you to use the tube). The normal LNE fare has a No arrival before 0940 restriction (the standard Euston one) which rather rules the sleeper out.

So all you now need to know is where to buy it - might be worth trying the contact form on the sleeperscot website.

Am I right in saying that as long as the destination is "London International" it automatically becomes a CIV ticket?

Trying to book this thing is impossible.

I've tried at my local Scotrail Station who can't book it. I've also tried calling Caledonian Sleeper CS who can't book it either.

I get the impression that Caledonian Sleeper really don't want to be a part of the National Rail network.

They're even denying knowledge of the Scottish Local Routeing Easements, despite Abellio Scotrail confirming they still exist, which I have escalated to Transport Scotland.

To be fair to Serco it was virtually impossible to get these CIV tickets when First ran the sleeper. My friend did manage to get one but it took a week or two to get it sorted.

You can purchase a EVS for about £67 and then add a "Sleeper Solo" supplement for £62.70 if that helps.

Like everything else though, it just seems so difficult to buy something that should be available if the passenger wants and is entitled to purchase it.

Tickets to London International are not fully understood by staff in my opinion. I believe that they were foisted on to the rail system as some sort of compensation for not getting regional eurostars to the provinces and have been resented by certain influential persons since.

As to why - who knows?

The irony is that the lass in the Dumbarton Central ticket office knew about the ticket and why it should be issued, she just couldn't get the machine to actually do it and that was after phone calls to both Helensburgh and Glasgow Queen Street ticket offices.
