Using an off peak return but starting AND ending at an intermediate station?

I’m wondering if i can buy an off peak coventry (COV) to Milton Keynes Central (MKC) return and start and end in Northampton (NMP)? Essentially I want to do a triangle journey - 1st from NMP to COV, then straight to MKC then back to NMP.

Otherwise i will probably buy NMP - COV then off peak COV - MKC.

While you can start and end at an intermediate station, you cannot use tickets out of order like this.

If you start short your ticket loses all validity up to where you started short, and similarly once you start using the return portion the outward portion loses all validity.

An Off Peak Return from Milton Keynes Central to Coventry and back (route via Rugby) at £27.90 would likely work. Just then need an additional Anytime Day Single from Milton Keynes Central to Northampton at £12.60. Should be cheaper options if all the travel is on the same day, and the OP is prepared to travel back via Northampton on the leg from Coventry to Milton Keynes Central. For example, Northampton to Coventry and back is £15.10 for an Off Peak Day Return and Northampton to Milton Keynes Central and back is £12.80, also for Off Peak Day Return.
