Used Rail tracks help

Hi All, I am new this forum, I am looking to source used rail tracks but cannot find ay suppliers in UK, can any help please ?

A line to a now closed open cast coal mine east of Merthyr is no longer used. It runs north from the village of Bedlinog and is I think, long welded rail on concrete sleepers. Goodness knows what, if anything, they plan to do with the track?

Eventually that line will be auctioned off and the track will become the property of the new owner. They will probably lift it and sell it for scrap. That's what's happened the old pit lines around here.

back in th late 70's early 80's i was waiting at my local station to go work, and a man came on pulling a small trolly with a foot long piece of tram track. The local council were re-laying the road and found the tracks, so being nosey i asked him he said he collected the different types of track. So whatever sails your boat!

Was this a chap called Stanley Swift from the Manchester Area by any chance? He was quite well known in the 70s for his hobby. I always imagined Blackpool Corporation Transport getting very nervous when they heard he was coming on the train to their resort!

Depending on what condition track you are looking for, I would try one of the Heritage Railways .

Pretty sure the entire line was transferred to TFW along with most of the other Valley Lines infrastructure a few years ago. There was some talk of potentially reopening the Ystrad Mynach to Bedlinog section to passenger use a while back, possibly even with an extension to Abercynon to form a cross-valley rail line, though that’s probably unlikely any time soon. But yeah, I can’t imagine TFW would have much use for the section north of Bedlinog.

They are cut and flattened then re puposed to make knives and scissors etc , also are used in HGV suspensions ,a nd in construction

I don't think any of those things happen in the UK, certainly its not used in construction - are you looking to ship them overseas then?

A long while back some were getting rolled into rebar in Kent (Isle of Grain?)

Have you tried scrapmetalsales@networkrail.co.uk ?
They handle virtually all redundant / scrap rails in GB but most is big scrap contracts to blast furnace or EAF or for reuse in heritage railways.
