It seems that you have been in the habit of buying child tickets, even though as a 16 year old you should buy adult tickets to travel on trains. So you know what you were doing was wrong. As soon as you got on a train with such a ticket you broke the law. You committed a crime. The proper process to deal with you has now started. A letter will be sent to the address you gave the inspector. It will be addressed to you or possibly to "Parent or Guardian of <your name>". By now you should of course have informed your parent or guardian about the incident. When the letter arrives you can put it in the forum, blanking out any personal details, and you will get good advice.
You will have to be apologetic, and commit never to do the same thing again. If you travel often, then the advice to buy a suitable railcard is good advice. The railway is not interested in your ability to pay. You could have avoided the situation by paying the right fare at the time. If they offer you (or your parent) an out of court settlement, then you should get it paid promptly.

well its a pisstake tbh
Yes, your use of child tickets when you're over the age limit for them is indeed a pisstake.

You need to grow up and pay your proper fare in future. You can continue to pay the same fare as a child by buying a 16-17 Saver card, or you can get a 16-25 Railcard for a third off, or you can pay adult fares.

Might be worth locking this? The OP has been given suitable advice and clearly isn't going to own the consequences of their actions. On their head be it.

OP, If I were you I'd drop this attitude if/when you communicate with the train company about the fine. There's no point getting defensive about it, you made a mistake and the fine is the consequence of that mistake. Taking the line of 'the fine is a pisstake' won't get you off. If you are 16 there are many places that hire for part time work so you can work for some more spending money in no time.

Fully appreciate times are hard - but people here are trying to help you by

a) explaining what has happened so you know what to expect
b) advising you on how to deal with it in away that will get you the best outcome possible (or at least the 'least worst' outcome.)

Hi all. Apologies for my actions on the thread a few weeks ago as you can all tell i was angry- by my actions and how i acted stupidly I have been working extra hours at my work to provide the money for the fine- they gave me an opportunity to explain what had happened during the event. I have learnt my lesson and won’t do it again- I was expecting a big fine but to my knowledge the letter said this:
Thank you all for your support and i got very lucky.

Thanks for heading back with an update - hope you are able to pay this in full ASAP as I think that will close the matter. It's a good outcome in the circs, as you say a lucky one.

Of course you will now be on their radar so take care not to come to their attention again (even by accident) as I suspect they would be harsher next time.

Good luck going forwards.

Probably one of the smallest settlements (inc costs) we've seen in a long while! A very good result indeed.
