Sure, must be all lies then. Maybe it's all part of the Judeo-Freemason NWO conspiracy you alluded to earlier?

Could be, who knows.

Does a newspaper being liberal immediately render any statistics void?

No, but as with any conservative one you should not always believe what is quoted. The Guardian and The Daily Mail (for instance) have their own agendas and biases, so they will fudge things in their favour to carry weight with their respective audience.

'Read between the lines and you'll find the truth' as The Jam once sang.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-37929267 - £10m for one day's work is pretty damn good!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/election-us-2016-37932231 - if they don't like it, go to Canada (like Whoopi and co. said they would).

Like the students here who are determined to overthrow Brexit because they don't like it those in America are exactly the same as they simply won't accept democracy.
I wonder how many of those students actually voted, students generally cannot motivate themselves whatsoever.
Today they will all be cowering and weeping in their safe spaces whilst not wearing a sombrero and definitely not eating any foreign food as that is the worse type of cultural appropriation.

With language like yours, who wouldn't want to?

Therein lies the problem - certain people know that they are the privileged ones and do not want a fair society, otherwise they'll have nobody to call out as 'racist' and 'homophobic' etc.

Imagine a perfect world where we agree to disagree and stop demanding people act and think in a certain way. When the 'holier than thou' mantra is finally removed.

When people agree that what is good for society is more beneficial than voting for their own self interest, maybe then the world will change for the better.

Best response so far IMO :)

I don't understand how you think that voting for Trump will solve that problem.

If it silences the fascism and bullying from the extreme left, then fine. They deserve it.

Look. I'm on the left. I disagree with much of what you've written. On the EU discussion in particular, you've said or implied a lot of things that seem to me be not just opinions I disagree with, but directly, verifiably, false - which to my mind is somewhat worrying. But at the same time, I don't doubt that you genuinely hold those opinions, and I do not agree with the way some people on these forums have attacked you. I think some people here have opted to insult you rather than respecting your opinions and pointing why they disagree with you, and those people really ought to stop.

But do you not see that when you start using what are basically insults like 'fascist', then you're acting just as badly and just as intolerantly as those you are accusing of bad behaviour?

A lot of Millennials are going to be seriously butt-hurt over Trump becoming President, but you know what - sod their feelings.

If 'sod their feelings' is what you feel about those who disagree with you then how on Earth can you justify complaining that other people don't listen to/respect your opinions (which seems to be the substance of what you are trying to say). Respect for other people's opinions works both ways!

Therein lies the problem - certain people know that they are the privileged ones and do not want a fair society, otherwise they'll have nobody to call out as 'racist' and 'homophobic' etc.

How about accepting that you honestly disagree with people, rather than trying to make out that people who disagree with you actually have bad intentions, as you have done here? (And yes, that applies to people on all sides of this debate, not just you). I'm fairly sure that most people, whether on the left or the right, whether pro- or anti-EU, or pro- or anti-Trump, do genuinely want a fair society. They just disagree about how to achieve it.

When people agree that what is good for society is more beneficial than voting for their own self interest, maybe then the world will change for the better.

I do very much agree with that.

Best response????? All the post you are quoting does is basically insult the people that Johnuk123 disagrees with (and lots of students). Wouldn't the best post here be something where the poster actually uses some rational arguments to make their point, rather merely throwing insults at other people?

If I've understood you correctly, you seem to be saying that you want more respect for different opinions here. I totally, 100%, agree with that. So how about you act on that desire in the way you write your own posts? (And to avoid any doubt, I would also really like if certain other posters, who are usually arguing on the same side as me, did likewise)

Indeed.

Listen to the VT of Trump's speech, with the crowd shouting to "kill Obama".

Truly a crowd wanting to extend the hand of peace.

Those of us on the centre-left think Trump is an arse, but we don't want him dead. Killing everyone, or at least destroying the lives of everyone who disagrees appears to be a right-wing fantasy.

The sniping and in fighting ends now. I'm not going to go back and delete posts and issue infractions because quite honestly I'm not even sure where to begin there is so much violation of the Forum Rules.

Any further posts which break our Rules will be deleted without warning and the poster in question may be subject to infractions (and potentially a temporary ban due to accumulation of infraction points). I am extraordinarily disappointed in the tone being using by people on this thread and you should consider this a warning that it will no longer be tolerated.

Everyone might want to take a moment to review the Forum Rules in particular:

Fair enough, and the comment about fascism was a retort to a previous poster.

The 'sod their feelings' comment was about people who think that because they are a special snowflake (i.e. Progressives or Social Justice Warriors - that's what an SJW means by the way DarloRich) that somehow that trumps (no pun intended!) everything else. Society must come first and also the 'special interest' groups need to realise that they are a part of society and not apart from it.

I don't believe that they have bad intentions - I don't even know the people by name or face, so i would certainly not judge them nor their intentions. You are right about how we disagree on what is best for society, and if people can get around the discussion table and talk it out then that can only be a good thing.
I do very much agree with that.

Yet when others throw insults or act immaturely...

That's very fair, and having seen the Moderators post I just hope we can agree to disagree on things.

Running for US president is one day's work?! Trump said in his victory speech that it's taken two years. His first proper duty as president-elect is today when he meets Obama to start the hand over process. All he's done so far since winning is PR.

No, I meant the Gold Dealer making £10m in one day - that is very impressive.

Fair play to him, he can probably afford to buy Birmingham City now ;)

Not sure about anyone else, but I'm getting pretty worried about this "the people have voted, shut up and stop complaining if you don't like the result" attitude that seems to have crept in this year with Brexit and now this.

Surely democracy is totally the opposite of that? That we are allowed to voice our satisfaction or dissatisfaction with the result.

Regarding the protests yesterday, I think an important point is that from what I saw, a lot of it wasn't specifically "anti the result of the vote" or anti democracy. It was anti trump. It was anti sexism, anti racism etc etc.

From my own left leaning point of view: I made a comment on a friends Facebook post talking about the same issues, and to paraphrase myself, we do need to accept Trump won. However that doesn't mean we have to stop wanting to protect minorities, protect the LGBTQ+ community, wanting to stop racism, xenophobia, sexism and misogyny. If anything we need to push for those things even more now.

He is an Elite, but was not among the Political Elite.

Not sure you can make the distinction tbh considering the financial elite pretty much control the political elite! There is no way in any definition of the word is trump not part of the system, not part of the establishment and not part of any elites. He is certainly not a "man of the people". But we shouldn't be surprised, it is the same trick Nigel Farage played. I am just amazed people continue to fall for it.

Very true, and I wholeheartedly agree with the above.

I would though add the following:

The left need to accept the right into the fight against racism, homophobia etc. as these are no longer left-only issues - they affect everybody regardless of politics. I know plenty of right-wing people who are sickened by them, and they would do more but they are put off by the suspicions and mistrust of certain people on the left.

Also, Social Justice does not begin and end with doing #hashtags online or calling people out on Facebook or Twitter. It is also not just about the things which WelshBluebird rightly mentions, but about things such as fighting against AIDS and Cancer and standing up for the defenceless people of society in the real world - marching against child abuse and elder abuse for instance.

I would, also, like people to be a part of the fight because they want to and not for any 'rewards' (for example, I once saw a Facebook post from a Labour voter saying 'I only do this (expletive) to get sex'. SMH...

Let us have true altruism and let's work together, ALL of us.

Obama is considering using the buddy system and giving Hilary Clinton an official pardon to prevent Trump getting her in court.
One thing that should be investigated is if Clinton was behind the sudden rush of "abused women" that turned up weeping at exactly the right time, shades of the Cliff Richard set-up there.

Ironic really given that Hillary had to metaphorically clench her teeth and live through Bill's near rapes and dalliances so as not to spoil her political ambitions.
The Clintons are lying crooks through and through.

...and we all know how the "all-knowing" pollsters have proved themselves to have "feet of clay"...<(

The national polls were about 2 points off, that a perfectly normal error and comfortably within what "the polls say Clinton leads by X" actually means. The problem was the likely voter screens in the state polling across the rust belt, which, are really really difficult to get right because lots of people say honestly that they intended vote and then don't or vice versa.

All these claiming "you lost, shut up, get over it" didn't have that opinion during 13 years of Labour rule. They did nothing but moan and whine.

Amazing, that.

I'm still not sure who these "social justice warriors" are. It was a term popularised by Milo Yiannopoulos, a man so obnoxious he managed to get himself permanently banned from Twitter because of his sexist and racist abuse.

I think it speaks volumes that, instead of having some introspection over how vile and nasty Trump and his policies are, the right will shout and scream about Hillary doing some things that are (admittedly) quite dodgy.

Yet, they simply don't compare. The fact that Farage is now joking with Trump about him sexually assaulting Theresa May shows just how little so many of these people care about anyone who is alienated and disaffected from society who isn't a straight, cis, white man. It's all very well to say that people feel upset and angry at politics at the moment, and I'd agree that there are many issues, but improving that situation cannot be done at the expense of people who are also suffering.

Social Justice Warriors are, in the main, young Millennials from well-to-do backgrounds. They claim to be anti-racist and anti-homophobic and pro-love, yet they are quite venomous about anybody who disagrees with any facet of what they say.

A number of them are against CIS white males (CIS meaning identifying as denoting or relating to a person whose self-identity conforms with the gender that corresponds to their biological sex; not transgender.) and hate them just for being who they are. They are also anti-Patriarchy and see offence even where none is implied, even to go as far as saying that they are 'triggered' when somebody disagrees with them (for 'triggered', imagine a Panic Attack or PTSD).

In effect, they are a bunch of brats who have had it easy and so feel guilty about this and so try to identify with a cause. They are used to having things their way and, when they can't get it, they go on protests to demand what is theirs - they rant about privilege and that everything is wrong in the world and only they are the answer.

A number of SJW's, however, are now realigning themselves as AJW's or Actual Justice Warriors. These people care more about society than identity politics and gender identities etc. and see the bigger picture rather than partaking in group-think and echo-chambering what has been said by their clique over and over again. AJW's actually go back to the roots of social justice and don't just focus on race and gender - they focus on environmentalism, charity, financial inequalities, old-style feminism (not the modern 'kill anything with a penis' type of feminism), community actions and issues etc.

Notice that I said that they CLAIM to be. This is an actual conversation between a white SJW and a black policeman:

http://i.imgur.com/FOclNWn.jpg

The white SJW tries to inform the black policeman that he knows nothing about racism, which is the antithesis of what SJW's say that they stand for - understanding, tolerance and love.

I feel like you have a lot of stereotypes in your mind, and not very much real experience here. It very much feels like you're just reciting Milo Yiannopoulos, Brendan O'Neill and James Delingpole.

The fact you won't stop banging on about people who you simultaneously seem to think have all the power and yet none at all (now there's a contradiction!) makes me think a) you have a massive chip on your shoulder about something, because SJWs aren't relevant here, and b) you've not really thought this through.

I have had plenty of experience with these 'non desirables'.

From being told, in person, that I should vote either Labour or Green in GE2015 or else my flat would be burnt down with me inside it, to being falsely accused of assaulting an SJW (whom I'd never encountered either in real life nor online).

They expect conformity from different groups, and anybody who does not think or act as they believe they should is treated as a pariah.

Not all people in minority groups wish to fall in line with this narrow view of the world, and there are many ethnic minorities and homosexuals/bi-sexuals/asexuals/demisexuals etc. who have told them where to stick it, much to their chagrin.
