Washington, D.C., the seat of the U.S. government has done what most other owners of a transit system has done. They have not spent money to maintain it when it was needed. After several warnings they did not heed, this was the result. These units needed to be taken out of service and replaced. Or they were in need of retro-fitting. It's strange how some older American subway system rolling stock has outlasted certain newer ones. It is criminal not to do the right thing just to save a few bucks! I am sure there will be lawsuits against this system, now that more information is made available that this could have been prevented.
