From the BBC Web news pages.

Dash cam footage shows the moment a freight train crashes into a military vehicle in Goose Creek, South Carolina.

According to local media reports, the crash happened on Thursday afternoon when a lowboy trailer carrying a US Army M109 Howitzer got stuck on the tracks.

it’s just fortunate that the train hit the front of the trailer rather than the howitzer directly. Would have been a more serious collision.

There is another video that was on mailonline earlier today that showed the truck driver jumping out of his cab seconds before the train hit. Hopefully nobody got injured.

There's even a warning sign about using low-loaders or other low-slung vehicles on the level crossing that the driver had passed.

It's good that nobody was hurt, but I don't believe it's the first time a lorry has got stuck there.

It appears the traverse gear on the Howitzer's turret shears under the force of the collision, which is why it is left spinning like that

It will not be a cheap repair!
The barrel is certainly a write off as it will have been bent out of specification. Honestly, that might be the more impactful issue given the current shortage of 155mm gun tubes.

I remember some years ago seeing the aftermath of a collision involving low boy at Melrose NM. A couple of weeks later I found the locomotive involved, BNSF 4102,with significant cab damage, which was subsequently repaired. They say that lightning doesn't strike twice, but earlier in its career it was involved in a major wreck in Matfield Green, KS and was sent to Mexico for repairs
