Hi i've bought a ticket for my friend to come down to see me over the internet on nationrail.com. I was just wondering how she could collect it from the station if she hasn't got my debit card but has the confirmation number? is there a way around this so that this isn't a wasted purchase? like collecting from the ticket booths?

Firstly I'm not sure what website you used as nationrail.com doesn't exist and if you mean National Rail Enquiries they don't sell tickets only link you to sites that do.

If your friend takes the booking confirmation number and perhaps an email printout of the on-line confirmation they may be able to get it from a manned booking office. However seeing as they didn't buy the tickets themselves the booking office staff maybe unwilling to print and issue the tickets to them. Your best bet would be to contact whoever you purchased the tickets from and explain your problem and find out how they can help you.

Could you not collect them yourself and send them in the post? Although that may not be ideal if you're needing them ASAP.

This website is the one run by the Chester-le-Street travel agency. It provides for booking train tickets via Trainline.

Once upon a time you didn't need the card you used to buy the tickets to pick them up. However, this option has now been removed on ticket machines. Your best bet is to try a booking office and just explain the situation. Take as much information as possible, including a printout of your booking confirmation. It's pretty much at their discretion as to whether they give you the tickets or not though.

If you give the name on the card, and the address of the holder of the card used for the booking, many stations will issue the ticket. Some, however, will additionally require ID. Some may simply refuse altogether (which I think is wrong but I can't find anything documented). It depends on company policy. EC policy appears to be (and certainly was) to ask for the name/address. Others are stricter with ID.

If you book at nationalrail.com it simply re-directs to Thetrainline, which charges credit card fees and postage fees, and I think even a 50p fee to collect the tickets?
