Wheelflats are common enough and would be noticed by staff onboard or when going on depot. You reported it which is admirable, I really wouldn't waste any more time on it. It's not a major safety issue but there are checks in place to pick these things up anyway.

Also am not sure we have to verify who everyone is do we? Who he is isn't really relevant regardless of our asides that 'if he was this person surely he would or wouldn't ask this'?

Good that someone noticed or important, but for the urgency of the OP I thought it would be more along the lines of electric hazards or something a little more urgent!

Aye tbtc, that inevitable email that they pick up on Monday morning at 9am saying I told you so whilst the media attack dog sits there with pictures of Mk3 carriages sit on top of a mile of knackered track.

Amdram's apart, there is not really too much to worry about but wheel flats can be developed since its last visit at the depot that morning and on a 5-6 carriage HST, it is not necessary that they will pick it up. And what if it was an Adelante?

Talking of accidents on the ECML, I am sorry to remind you all that it will be the 10th anniversary of Great Heck on Monday.

I'm not aware of wheelflats having caused an accident certainly in the last 50 years? I still don't understand the 'urgent' word in the first post. If it was a dire safety issue then station staff can and should ensure the train is stopped by the signaller (eg if you saw smoke coming from it or a door open or someone trapped etc). We have established that the op reported the (quite minor) problem and that is enough. The number for the maintainance depot isn't publicised because, as in this instance, it is not necessary for members of the public to contact it direct.

I'm sure if the flats were bad, then the on board team would have noticed, plus I'm sure there must be a wheel checks device fitted somewhere on the ecml, that would trigger if the wheels were not up to scratch.

No we don't have to verify everyone, but in the case of those who come on using a username which relates to a particular company, I think we should. Would save arguments such as the one going on in this thread, and also stop confusion between other users if they post something on the forums. It would be quite easy for someone to join the forum under say X company name and start posting, when they may in fact have nothing to do with that company, could get themselves and the forum into bother and also lead to people getting advice/information that is incorrect.

I think most people are old and ugly enough to make their own judgements on what to believe of somebody, to be fair.

Getting torn up over possibly libellous statements is a bit of a misnomer as anybody who represents a company in question who would like to object to something which has been said about them has to mediate first with whoever owns the rights to what has been said (ie the forum owners).
