If I have an interrail pass (second class) could I get a seatfrog upgrade using it or is it not a valid ticket.
The same goes with Westbahn upgrades.

Essentially, if you have a standard class interrail pass can you buy first class upgrades on certain trains or would you need a standard non interrail ticket

It depends on each operator’s rules, there’s no one right answer. Certainly you’d have no issue using a Seatfrog upgrade combined with a Standard Interrail pass in the UK though.

Just read in another forum-either tripadvsior or likely the community.eurail (which has dozens more of same-same info topics) that WESTbahn does not allow any passholder in its 1st-not even those who have a 1st cl. pass! Not even standing when all those seats are taken......
Also-for the case you´re hoping for BritRail style freebees these are minimal to non-existing in most countries. F.e. DB in German explicitly bans 1st cl. passholders from entry in its lounges.
And yes-policies differ per railway and there is no set rule whatsoever-from just a minimal extra to pay till not allowed at all.
Never heard about seatfrog, so it may also be much limited to the country which issues it.
As a very broad/rough rule of thumb: the cheaper the normal fares are in a given country, the lower till nil the chance on any special further discounts or freebees.
