Not on an advance. XC do a Weekend First upgrade but only on walk-up tickets.

You can upgrade any ticket to First Class, although it'll be quite expensive with an advance.
If you can provide details of when you're travelling, where you're starting your journey and how much you've paid for your ticket, we'll help you out.

You can excess an Advance to First class. The Manual states the following
Charge £10 admin fee PLUS the difference between the fare paid and the appropriate First Class Single fare available for immediate travel on the journey being made.

If the OP is travelling during the weekend/on a Bank Holiday- I'm guessing it would be cheaper to excess the advance fare to Standard Class, then buy the weekend first upgrade, instead of paying for the First Anytime Single?

Either way I know it's very likely to be an extremely large amount, bearing in mind it's Cross Country we're talking about.

Having said that, I have no idea if it can be done in practice, as I have no real knowledge of this awfully complicated thing which we refer to as the 'ticketing system'.

I was just thinking about weekend upgrades etc after I saw CompactDstrxion's post about them. (no blame being directed though! :p)
