Hi

Bit basic but does anyone know of any upcoming major train diversions, including ones that are planned but are yet to be announced?

Thanks,
Jim.

Reading is blocked at Easter 2015 for commissioning of the Feeder lines with the usual diversions via Banbury and Salisbury. (There is a partial closure this Christmas and new year, but through trains can operate over the reliefs.)

During this weekend's works at Watford Junction (and maybe following weekends too), Virgin are running hourly services via the North London Line, Ealing Broadway, West Ruislip and the Chiltern Main Line. Most of them are to Birmingham International calling at Coventry only, however a few extend to/start from Birmingham New Street and one from Preston, calling at various other places. Some London-bound ones also set down at West Ruislip.

The first three weekends in October, engineering work north of Newcastle, so diversions via Hexham to Carlisle and then north to Scotland.

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld

Lousy paths between Stockport and Chesterfield!

To bypass the WCML closure at Watford Jn.

Of course, if the track was relaid between Buxton and Matlock, it could take a shorter and easier route to London.

In peace

Of of interest how much shorter would it be? Looking at the schedules above Manchester-Derby via the Hope Valley could be done in roughly 1 hour 20 mins if it got a decent run (whether it would be further quicker via Bredbury vice Sotckport I don't know). Is via Buxton and Matlock really so much quicker?

On Sunday, 24th August this year, there are supposed to be major engineering works between London Kings Cross and Finsbury Park, resulting in some Hull Trains services being diverted to St Pancras.
Strange how the East Coast website still has no details of it.

At 1960's speeds, I don't think 1 Hour & 20 minutes could be bettered via Bakewell.

Mind you, who knows how much the exMidland main line might have been improved if it had remained open? Much has been spent to raise speeds on the Hope Valley line, to save embarrassment at the closure of the faster Woodhead route, if nothing else,

I wonder what the journey time is Manchester to Derby via Macclesfield, Stoke & Uttoxeter versus the Hope Valley?

EMT sign from Stoke, but not sure about Stockport to Stoke.

I believe East Coast are unaffected with the sunday Kings Cross works (closure of some of the lines), First Capital Connect 313 services are being diverted into Moorgate (or terminating at Finsbury Park for the 365s/321s).

Reduced Platform capacity and, I believe, Single Line Working into / out of Kings Cross.

Good weekend to do it really with limited services out of Euston due to Watford Blockade.

Ah, right. That's it then. Thank-you.

There's a fairly big one on Thameslink from December until January 2018 when the link between BML and SE sides at London Bridge are physically removed for major rebuilding.
