Last Thursday morning I attempted a journey from Horsham to Farringdon return split over Horsham to Gatwick and Gatwick to Farringdon, cost £33.10. My train was due to leave Horsham at 7:56 but for some reason was severely delayed leaving the siding so I ended up leaving Horsham around 8:20. I got to Farringdon around 40 minutes later than normal so put in a delay repay claim when I got back home that evening (the return journey wasn't delayed).

Thamesling accepted my delay was between 30 mins and 1 hour but have only compensated me £2.50. I was under the impression that if a return journey is delayed in one direction, they halve the ticket price and 30-59 mins is half the ticket price compensation which would be around £8. What they seem to have done is taken the £10 Horsham to Gatwick return ticket and calculated the compensation from that alone, not the full journey to Farringdon. On previous delays between 15 and 30 minutes on the same journey and split tickets I have received £4.20. Shall I get in touch with them and ask if they have made a mistake? I definitely sent them photos of all my tickets when submitting the claim.

Yes - it's probably just an error. I don't think there's any operator out there that disputes that delay compensation is payable based on the total cost of the tickets used when splitting.

Did you enter the combined value of the tickets when you made your claim, as well as a ticket number of 0 (or 00000)? This usually helps, as it means it has to be manually processed.

Agreed - I've had them pay me off the first of two split tickets but it was immediately remedied when I contacted them - didn't think to enter a ticket number of 0 that's a really useful tip.

Yes I entered the full combined value and a photo of all tickets. The only niggle with the online application is I can only input one ticket number whereas for a split ticket journey I have two ticket numbers. I didn't realise I could put "0" for a ticket number.
