Whilst in the pub yesterday, I'm sure I was sober enough to see a weather forecast suggesting today would be sunny, with cloud moving in during the afternoon. At no point did I recall hearing the words "it's gonna honk it down with rain and you will get soaked to the skin standing in the middle of a field near Lichfield Trent Valley if you go out to fot 5Z47"...or anything similar.

It started off so well - 66432 passed Atherstone in nice sunshine after some high cloud had almost completely burnt off - http://www.ferret.fotopic.net/p63858850.html

I also have a new lens - a 70-200 f4 IS L series lens, which I'm probably going to be using for aircraft more than trains, but it needed a test run, so it was pointed at a Pendolino - http://www.ferret.fotopic.net/p63858851.html

And a Voyager - http://www.ferret.fotopic.net/p63858852.html

Naturally 4L75 ran late - presumably to allow the cloud to roll in. Of course, if it had passed on time, this would be a sunny shot of 86501 - http://www.ferret.fotopic.net/p63858853.html

Then it beagn to rain so I beat a hasty retreat to the car, before venturing back out for 37516/47245 just as the light brightened up a little. http://www.ferret.fotopic.net/p63858854.html

Indeed, as I went for my lunch in Atherstone, the sun began to break out again, but it was to be shortlived. 57316 was dragging a 325 north to Glasgow, so I climbed the A38 embankment at Lichfield and watched the drizzle roll in from the west, causing this ISO800 shot - http://www.ferret.fotopic.net/p63858855.html

And then the coup de grace, as the rain got heavier, I found myself stood in the middle of a field waiting for 47739 with a blue and grey Mk3 - http://www.ferret.fotopic.net/p63858856.html Just a fraction of a second late with the shutter I fear.

Off home to watch the IPL in disgust at yet another weather forecaster fail.

Never believe the weather men, there is some form of conspiracy going on.

Even with the poor weather, the shots are amazing.

I was in the midlands all day yesterday, great shooting conditions in the morning but I was disappointed with the afternoon, looks like you got 47739 just a few seconds after I passed it on a 350. I headed to Tamworth and managed to grab a shot of a pair of 60s on 6E41. Fortunately I was also testing anew lens, a nice little 50mm F1.8 otherwise I would not have the 60s as the weather was so poor.:)

Nice shots despite the weather.

I can't remember the last time i've been out 'foting' in the sun, either due to getting bowled at the last minute (grrr) or having work commitments. Hopefully this year what with a 4 month summer holiday I can pin down some decent weather (ha!)

Hiya, I liked the shots you got, bit of a bowl out regarding weather but it's not completely ruined the shots! The Pendo/Voyager was in sun! lololol

Like the last shot, maybe a fraction of a second late, like you say, but to time that exactly is near on impossible... I like the shot anyway, artistic and different. Nice ;)
