Bulleid’s Leader and CC1 aside is anyone aware of any unusual design of steam loco that didn’t resemble the usual planform - ie Tender > cab > boiler.

The cab forward design was useful in the long tunnels and snow sheds of Donner Pass and other mountainous regions where it kept smoke, heat, and soot away from the operating crew, allowing them to breathe clean air in such enclosed spaces.
I hear there was a design somewhere for the steam boiler to be a hundred miles from the train, connected to it just by a copper wire put over the tracks.
I'm sure it'll never catch on ...
