Just on an XC train, seeing an unusual sight - onboard train cleaner!

How long is left on the XC franchise?

It expires 31 March 2016 assuming it doesn't get pushed back by the current freeze in re-franchising.

Hmm, it just seem funny them suddenly getting worried about cleanliness. I think it too much to hope them doing it just to clear a bit of XC bashing, or is this part of DBs grand plan?

IIRC GC normally have one onboard from KGX to york and then do a swap over with another, so the KGX cleaner goes on the next southbound and his/her releif goes back north.

FGW also do between Exeter and Plymouth on certain trains. Takes the 18:22 down to Plymouth, then goes back up on the 19:4x HST. Basically the move I do when on a quick Devon Evening Ranger bash! ;)

I noticed this yesterday on the way to Southampton.

Is it normal for on-board cleaners to have T-keys? With smart uniform the guy was wearing at first I thought it was a very train proud train manager until he turned out to be someone different.

XC have always had cleaners, they were franchised out until around 4 months ago with ISS then XC brought them
In house.
The "onboard" cleaners only clean between Sheffield & Derby aswell as Bristol & Taunton. Then have cleaners at turnaround points too.

For the Southampton terminators a Reading cleaner travels down with the set so cleans normally on the go.

They are all issued with T Keys so they can safely empty the bins.
