Unreliable Southern Rail ticket mchines

Hullo,

Not sure if this is better in this forum, or in the fares forum but...

Why on earth are the new Southern Rail ticket machines so unreliable. I've not seen a full week go by without at least one of the machines at my local station being out of order.

Asking on here as Southern are only saying "We're aware of the situation and are looking into it". I work in IT so would be very keen in hearing actual technical reasons as to what on earth keeps breaking on these machines rather than PR-friendly/fluffy answers

The new Southern ticket machines are very temperamental and indeed often do not work. My understanding s that they are working with the manufacturer, who is a reputable supplier, to try and sort them out. The problem appears to be they work in the factory, but not once out in the field.

I used to work on the old Swecoin machines in the ticket offices back in the day, unless it's moisture affecting ticket stock causing paper jams, excess dust from the cutting mechanism messing up sensors, chip and pin reader failure, not sure. My company lost the contract to Daisy Group who have not been doing alot of the maintenance visits as their predecessor. I'm surprised they were not tested in a couple of stations before being rolled out everywhere to prevent problems like this
