does anyone know if the refurbs have been completed on NXEC's sets? I know they've all been re-engined, but what about the trailers? Was hoping to bash the old mk3s up into Scotland one more time before they go.

If so, anyone know when they'll last be working the highland chieftain? or the northern lights, if not that.

There is at least one 'Brown' set still around, and the seats have been recovered! Some have suggested that it is to remain in that condition for a while as NX do not have enough money to refurb it. I'm unsure how true that is though

It can work any service, and will work the Chieftain and Northern Lights at some point, but unfortunately you wouldn't really know until on the day what its allocated to!

The set that runs the morning Hull Executive always goes on to work the Highland Chieftan (Monday-Friday), so if you can get any gen on which set is running that service you may be able catch it!

Saw some 'old' Mk3s for NXEC at New Barnet yesterday as well as some unrefurbished powercars, no valentas obviously but still not repainted.

just rang NXEC and there are 2 sets left in service with the original interiors. Probably best just to show up & hope for the best. Though every time I've been to LKX in the morning, it has been one of the unrefurbed sets put on the Highland Chieftain, so fingers crossed.

I'm surprised whoever you phoned knew that! Quite impressive!

Good luck anyway!

i thought so. Apparently one's in regular service while the other (which i believe is the ex-MML green set i had back in september for the 17:30 Edinburgh-London) is being used as a substitute in case of failures.

may have done, I don't know. Actually had my favourite rail journey ever on that set. Completely packed out, i had the single seat at the north end of coach B. Had a new book to read, and simply enjoyed the atmosphere. Completely blew the refurbed set i took up there out of the water.

I really hope when HST preservation gets going, we can preserve both a Paxman and Valenta in BR Blue/Grey and GNER livery, restoring the original and GNER brown interiors.

Ultimately, to raise enough money to purchase some examples of IC 125 rolling stock to enter preservation. Such rolling stock shall include one or more power cars, as near as possible to original operational configuration
