Uno starting a new annual trend?

Yesterday, our local bus company had one of its double deckers crash and the driver arrested, with 45 people taken to hospital - mostly students at the University of Hertfordshire (who own and operate Uno bus).

Having noticed the related stories on the BBC, it was almost a year to the day when another Uno bus was involved in another incident where the top of a double decker was sheared off by a bridge.

I wouldn't recommend being on an Uno bus this time next year.

South Mimms double decker bus crash injures 45 people

Forty-five people were injured when a double decker bus overturned and collided with a car in Hertfordshire.

The collision happened at about 08:25 BST on the A1081 St Albans Road between South Mimms and Barnet.

The East of England Ambulance Service said no-one was thought to be critically injured but 45 of the 87 people involved were taken to hospital.

A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Bus roof ripped off by bridge in Harpenden

A double decker bus has had its roof torn off as it drove under a railway bridge in Hertfordshire.

Station Road in Harpenden was closed after coach firm Uno's number 271 vehicle got stuck between Station Approach and Breadcroft Lane just before 08:30 BST.

The bus was empty, no one was reported injured and recovery was completed by 11:10, Hertfordshire Police said.

A spokesman for Uno said an investigation had begun.

As an ex-resident of Harpenden I missed the previous crash. Interesting the way they describe it as being between Station Approach and Breadcroft Lane, I would have said it was between Station Approach and Carlton Road!

Didn't realise it was the bus driver who was arrested.

Having driven on that stretch of road you'd be hard pushed to roll anything, but it appears the driver hit the bank.

I believe the majority of the 45 people taken to hospital were transported by coach.

Sorry I forgot to clarify that it was the bus driver attested. He's now been bailed.

It wasn't confirmed by the media it was the bus driver arrested. They did mention the female driver of the car though, and that a male had been arrested.

I might avoid Uno buses for a while then (having not been on one for over a year anyway)!
