Just curious, with the exception of metros, island line and underground lines, what two items of modern rolling stock are you least likely to see side by side on the modern network?

Not very likely, however if they wanted to run a railtour on the Euston to Watford DC Lines with a 460 it could happen. Back in the day they ran a 4 COR railtour on the DC Lines looked very out of place pictured beside the AC electric locomotives!

Some things you won't see side by side in passenger service (barring railtours and change of ownership/lease)

360/1 and 360/2

321/3 and 321/9

313/0 and 313/2

In a similar vein, Scotrail have the entire fleet of Class 170/4, and they never meet at any point 170/1, /2, /5 and /6 (Scotrail also have 4 x 170/3).

When the mk4s were grounded and 321s operated ECML services did the 321/3s and 321/9s meet then?

I think the OP is talking about the present day. 321/3s to Doncaster happened under British Rail.

Any of 159/444/450/458 and 375/376/395 as no SWT services run alongside any SE services. You could be picky and go on the London Eye and view Waterloo & W'loo East at the same time though :D
455's not included as they used to go to Chart Leacon at one time.

Can't remember the reason offhand, but it resulted in strange things happening for a few days, like this:

Didn't scotrail have the ex hull trains 170's for a little while.

As said, they do still- which is why I was quite careful in my list :D
XC have /1, /3, /5 and /6
LM have /5 and /6
East Anglia have /2
TPE have /3
ScotRail have all the /4 and the ex Hull /3s

170s cannot run with 171s, and I believe that their network don't overlap either.

Pretty much any Scottish EMU with their English equivalents...
Don't think 450s generally turn up alongside 350s either, unless Southern have still got some of the dual-voltage ones...
