HSS drivers at many FGW depots now sign units, some HSS guards now sign units as well. I believe an Exeter high speed driver worked the 142 to Swindon with an Exeter west guard route conducted beyond Bath Spa (or Bristol depending on what Exeter guard was used).

some of the gloucester unit drivers also sign HSTs on existing routes they sign too.

Does anyone remember the MML days? I've had my HST replaced by a 170 more times than I care to think. The Manchester-St Pancras was a regular for swapping but my favourite was a smashed windscreen on a Sunday evening departure for St Pancras so we reversed out of Sheffield via Beighton. Our new set was waiting in the platform at Derby, a 9 car 170 and it's return working was to Leeds! The only time I'd taken a 170 Leeds. Happy days eh!

I never use the Cotswold line simply for the reason that the HST diagrams are occasionally turbos, and i just can't imagine sitting (or standing?) on one all the way from Worcester - Paddington. A shame as it is a nice journey and Worcester is quite local to me, but the amount of times i've seen Turbos sat at Paddington on Hereford diagrams instead of HSTs...no thanks! It's also a rather expensive route, as there are no advance fares available. I'm not paying full fare for standing on a Turbo when i could have an HST!
