I guess sets can change around a bit so not sure what power cars were on it. Scot Rail website reports the full set as
XC01 41193 45001 42368 42369 42367 42366 44021

Sorry but confused here. What would be the unit number I was expecting 43xxx for a HST? Is it different to the way unit numbers on emu’s and dmu’s are defined?

Is it definitely a ScotRail train? I have a photo of the vestibule taken near Haymarket but I had it in my mind it was x country?

It is an XC HST trailer coach.

HSTs don't have unit numbers, they have 2 power cars 43xxx and 43yyy plus a coach rake, eg XC01, but given the nature of them these can and do change. It is XC, the website the information was gotten from is scot-rail, note the rake ID - XC01 - XC indicates it belongs to crosscountry
