Unexpected Underground Validity?

No problem here - just asking out of interest.

I hold a paper season ticket from Stevenage to London Bridge routed "Not Underground". The other night I was coming back from a works do at Aldgate East.

I touched in on PAYG Oyster at Aldgate East and got the Underground to King's Cross. On exiting I put in my paper season ticket into the barrier (purely down to force of habit). I immediately realised what I'd done and expected the barrier to reject my ticket so I could scan my Oyster. However, it let me out!

I explained what had happened to the guy on the gateline and he touched out my Oyster for me but he was also surprised that the ticket had worked.

Should it have done? If so, does it actually have any validity on LU?

Tickets with validity between Finsbury Park & Kings + are also valid as part of Joint Availability (commonly also known as Interavaliability) on the Underground between Finsbury Park, Highbury/Islington, Kings + St Pancras, Old Street, and Moorgate. I'm not sure how the additional routeing of "Not Underground" affects this though.

I'd argue it does have validity on LU between King's Cross & Moorgate (only), but some may disagree and say the 'Not Underground' routeing trumps that validity, and I am not sure if we'll ever get consensus on that.

I thought the fact that it was a point-to-point ticket rather than a "London Terminals" might cancel any validity to Moorgate anyway. Are we saying that this ticket would be valid Finsbury Park - Moorgate on the GN trains?

I can't think of any reason why not? Finsbury Park - Moorgate hasn't been part of London Underground since the early 1970s.
