Unexpected Service at Didcot Parkway 10th May 2022

Hi All,

I commute daily between Reading and Culham, which requires a connection at Didcot Parkway. If I take the 18:17 service from Culham to Didcot, my options towards Reading are usually the fast 18:28 service or the stopping one at 18:39. However today there was an additional fast service calling at 18:34 that I am unable to locate on RTT. Does anyone know why this additional call was made, and whether this is a one-off?

From GWR’s Journeycheck:

“16:23 Swansea to London Paddington due 19:14 will call additionally at Didcot Parkway.
This is due to a short-notice change to the timetable.”

which really doesn’t mean much!

GWR journeycheck has a few other additional calls as well

17:34 London Paddington to Hereford due 20:26

This is due to the train making extra stops because a train was cancelled.

16:31 Great Malvern to London Paddington due 19:28
16:31 Great Malvern to London Paddington due 19:28 will call additionally at Didcot Parkway.
This is due to the train making extra stops because a train was cancelled.

18:35 Oxford to Didcot Parkway due 18:52
18:35 Oxford to Didcot Parkway due 18:52 will be cancelled.
This is due to a fault on this train.

I will hazard a guess that it was to assist signallers to get to TVSC. Sounds about the right time for it, barring any disruption.

Normally if a Bristol service (or two) are cancelled, the Didcot calls are added.
