Hello - Long time reader here, first time poster.

A slightly odd situation occurred on my Oyster balance the other day. I'd gone to a tube station to upload my new Young Person's railcard. When I later looked at the online journey history, it says that, at that station, there had been an adjustment to the pay as you go balance of £2.85 credit.

I can't think what this is for - does anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks

Had you travelled on that day prior to getting the Railcard loaded? I believe (although am not 100% on this - others will be able to confirm) that the cheaper fare after the loading of a Railcard is backdated to the first journey made on that day.

Did you have an unresolved journey in the previous week or so? It could be an automated refund that just happened to come through on the same day as the railcard was added.

Just checked the history and nothing unusual there. The ticket clerk did have a slightly puzzled expression while uploading the railcard - perhaps that was to do with this refund!

Annoyingly the Oyster system won't do that. It applies the new cap to the whole days spend, but if you've already gone over that level, tough!

I've had something slightly similar once. Apparently, it's the clerk fixing (or attempting to fix) an older unresolved journey, a record of which remains on the card somehow for some time past when the journey took place.

Ah, that would explain it! I seem to remember using an Oyster machine once, and it bringing up an unresolved journey from a long time previous. Perhaps it was that one.

When an Oyster card has an unresolved journey, and is touched on the reader in the ticket office, the booking clerk is alerted that you have an unresolved journey and asks if they want to correct it.
