Underground Railway Stations

Out of curiosity apart from London underground , What national rail stations platforms are underground ?

The Northen City Line in London - although it's variously been part of LU in the past, is NR now and was built for mainline-size trains. also ex-LU Overground East London Line stations. The Thameslink station at St Pancras and City Thameslink. Plus the not-open-yet Crossrail core stations.

Prepare for an argument as to what is meant by 'underground' though...! Would a station that has been built over since building (such as Birmingham New Street) class as underground (if not, ignore City Thameslink!)?

As said there are lots with daylight between tunnels but at a low level? Do they count, kind of semi burried? Plus some some that are half in a tunnel. Walsall comes to mind.

City Thameslink is not actually underground, the platform emergency doors exit to outside street level. It is treated as an underground station for safety purposes.

As fairysdad intimates, what is 'under ground'? Birmingham New Street is deemed to be an 'under ground' station for fire regulation purposes (I believe) but the ends are open to the sky.

Heathrow rail stations. Central and T4 are mined stations, T5 is a station box.

The Eastern end of Charing Cross (Glasgow) is pretty much in a tunnel.

The former East London Line part of the inaccurately-named (at that point) Overground... leaving aside that the waters have been muddied over whether the Overground is really National Rail (of course it is!). Same goes for The Elizabeth Line Crossrail when it opens.

London Liverpool St is, I believe, considered to be an underground station for fire safety reasons.

The OP is talking about national rail stations, which wouldn't include the Tyne and Wear Metro, but would include Merseyrail.

In Glasgow it'd include the two underground national rail lines but not the Subway.

An interesting historic example would be the Moorgate branch of Thameslink through Blackfriars into Moorgate.

I think the OP means stations in (or partially in) a tunnel rather than stations that have been built over even if it means that they are classified as "underground" for fire safety or whatever.

There's - Merseyrail Conway Park, Green Lane, which are underground but open to the elements

Wapping is underground, and Rotherhithe/Shadwell are both in nearly covered cuttings on the East London line.

Interesting quirk with these stations, of course - certainly they are operated to Network Rail rules, by London Overground (which is a devolved National Rail franchise), but I believe the East London line itself is still owned by TfL, which is why the National Rail logo isn't shown on their signage.

if Heathrow counts, these certainly do as well, though.
