Uncollected ticket from TVM

If you book an off peak one way ticket for say 10 October valid for travel on that day only but you do not pick it up until say 18 October will the ticket still print on 18 Oct, if so will it have 18 Oct as the valid date on it.. and b if it does print but has the old date of 10 October on it would you immediately be able to board the next train as the date and time of printing will be shown on the ticket which will indicate that it hasn't been used for travel or is the ticket worthless?

The ticket will still print, but it will still be the same product that you originally purchased.

The print date will be whatever date you print it, but the valid date will still be whatever date you purchased it for.

It is worthless unless the ticket cost more than £10 and is a refundable ticket type, in which case it can be refunded (subject to £10 admin fee).

To avoid this problem in future, consider booking through Southern's website.

If you book your ticket from Southern's website, do not collect the tickets from the machine after they have expired. You can login to their website and choose to refund uncollected walk-up tickets for any TOC and uncollected Southern advances. They will refund to your card (eventually).

If you book through any other operator's website, the tickets will cost £10 to refund (if it can be refunded at all) if collected after the validity date.
