I received the Penalty Fare Letter two weeks ago, which was issued by Greater Anglia and I need to make the payment by Friday as that's the deadline. I've tried calling them multiple times, but the phone numbers never worked. I also tried making the payment through their website but my reference number was not getting accepted. When I emailed them regarding this, they told me the only way to make the payment was to call & speak with an advisor.

Could anyone give me a phone number that works or inform me on what can be done regarding this ?

Thanks everyone, as your comments were really helpful & be really useful for someone in the future.

* Anyone in the future struggling to make payment to IRCAS by calling, can try contacting ITAL UK as that phone number always works, but they are not responsible for it. So, you could ask them to get you connected to IRCAS, which I did & I was successful in making the payment. Their phone number is 03300225022

Is it definitely a penalty fare? They get issued on the spot rather than through the post. It sounds to me like you might have been reported for an offence and received a settlement offer to avoid the case being progressed

Yes, I think it was a penalty fare and I was supposed to make the payment at that time but was unable to as I didn't have my wallet with me, therefore I received it through post.

Can you post them a cheque?
Yes I think I so, but I'm unsure whether it will reach on time. Would it be fine if it reaches after the deadline.

If you are especially concerned about it arriving on time you could sent it via Special Delivery which guarantees next day by 4pm. No other Royal Mail services have a delivery guarantee (they are all "delivery aims"). Special Delivery costs £6.85.

Thanks, I'll take that into consideration. I actually received an email saying that payment can be done only by phone. Thankfully I was able to make the payment by phone
