Un-Reserved Seating - Grand Central Trains...

Hi there,

Wonder if anyone can help. I am travelling on the 10:19 Grand Central service from Northallerton to London Kings Cross on Friday 30th October. I have been unable to reserve a seat, so I just wondered are any of the coaches un-reserved at all?

Can't see you having a problem - I travelled on that service from Thirsk to York a few weeks back and there was plenty of room. In fact, my experience with Grand Central is there is normally plenty of space to spread out!

you might also get lucky and get a first class carriage that has been 'declassified' so you can travel in a more spacious carriage with a standard class ticket.

That's happened to me twice out of 4 journeys in the last 6 months.

Is this quite common for Grand Central ?

That service is booked for a 180, so no declassed 1st sadly.

I travelled on GC's HSTs on a few occasions last week - both HST sets had a declassified TF at the north end of the set. In fact, on Sunday, the set in traffic (which had been increased from 5 to 6 coaches) had two TFs in use as standard class vehicles in the formation. Still no sign on the outstanding vehicles from Marcroft (one TF and two TS).

That service is usually a 180, and both HST sets are now running 2+6 until the end of the year.
Where did you try to book seats? Only thing I can think of at the moment is that they are fully reserved (leaving seats for walk ons and last minute ticket office purchases) and they have closed the trains to further reservations.
