Can anyone shed light on why yesterday's 1808 TransPennine service from York to Micklefield (calling at Ulleskelf) was replaced by a rail replacement bus?

What's puzzling is that other trains were still running past Ulleskelf, including TransPennine, and the station remained open throughout. Wasn't a general line closure or station closure then.

Checked for engineering works but couldn't find anything specific affecting just this service on the York-Church Fenton-Micklefield section.

Points failure? Signalling issue? Very localised track work?

Anyone have the operational details or know what caused this specific service alteration?

(And then the bus didn't turn up, but that's another story!)

Cheers

That's bizarre. The 1808 train ran, according to RTT, leaving +5

So presumably the bus was in the schedule in error, hence why it didn't show up?

The 1808 ex York wasn't scheduled to call there according to RTT.

As @800001 asks, is the 1808 TPE train from York ever booked to call at Ulleskelf?

Thought only Northern trains served that particular station.

I think TPE do/have called when there is engineering works going on somewhere in the TransPennine route upgrade.

TPE take over northern services between York and Leeds as they have a surplus of units etc

As mentioned above. Though, it doesn’t explain why the train didn't call at Ulleskelf.

I can’t remember if Ulleskelf is fitted with CASDO beacons or not, and if it isn’t then it won’t be a permitted station call

TPE are covering the York - Leeds via Garforth Northern Service this weekend to enable Northern to strengthen the Leeds - Manchester via Calder Valley services

Normally Northerns 1808 service would call at Ulleskelf, however IIRC there is a issue which prevents TPEs 185s from Calling there. Hence the bus

The 1808 rail replacement bus, which was advertised in national rail enquiries, was.
RTT for 1843 Rail Replacement Bus at Ulleskelf on 2nd August

There’s a road closure in place West of Ulleskelf, so the only route for the RRB betwern York and Ulleskelf would be from the A19 and Cawood, which might explain why the bus didn’t turn up (on time).

ta. Yeah that road closure is a significant PITA.
It didn't turn up at all, though. I waited there two hours whilst TPE arranged a rail replacement bus replacement taxi to rescue me.

This is when the railway wastes money, wouldn't it be cheaper to have a Bridlington train call additionally at Ulleskelf for the duration of the works, rather than wasting money in hiring in a replacement bus/taxi for the few passengers for Ulleskelf at that time of day.

Considering that both TPE & Northern are operated by the DfT.

Or given the presumably fairly small number of passengers requring Ulleskelf, just use the local door on the TPE service?

I’m also looking at the 1822 to Blackpool North (wrong tracks though) and the 1845 to Bridlington as reasonable alternatives that could have been stopped instead.

The latter would benefit from an additional stop in the 1908 York to Leeds at Church Fenton

If the RRB operated as expected, I assume they were hoping to meet the 1905 at Micklefield, so any plan involving the 1845 without an additional stop in the 1908 at Church Fenton would be 30 minutes later into Leeds and with an additional stop would be 17 minutes later.
