Suggestion.

How about some preserved diesels yielding their BR blue and warning yellow for Ukraine blue and yellow ?

I'm only making that suggestion for one of visible support for Ukraine. Not going into the whys and wherefores and costs and effort of doing that. Nor into the exact shades of blues and yellows so beloved of livery froth debate.

Note to mod : was not sure if to put this here under General discussion (being more about Ukraine support than anything else) or under Preservation [where it might be less noticed].

Any money spent on that would be better spent on MANPADs, stingers, javelins and other lethal or humanitarian aid.

Painting a train Blue and Yellow doesn’t stop the missiles flying, doesn’t heal the injured, doesn’t bring back the dead.

It would be, in my opinion, just another vague and meaningless symbol of the desire for people to do… something… be it of value or not. The issue is that these symbols are not free and the opportunity cost is doing something of tangible benefit.

Perhaps it could be used as fundraiser train, travelling the country collecting donations.

Or perhaps people could just donate directly to the Disasters Emergency Committee; saving all the hassle of painting an engine, sourcing crews, taking up planning resources that have been under considerable strain for the last two years, and spending money in the hope of raising in excess of the costs.

So spend a huge amount of money to probably gain a smaller amount of money for charity....
