Can you point to the rule which says member nations are free to control immigration from within the community? Remain should have had it as a banner headline. As for non-EU migration, Britain has the final say on who gets work and residence. This unremarkable criterion is exercised by democracies such as the USA and Australia.

Try going and working in any other EU country you will soon find out. There are ways and means of restricting immigration and staying within the agreed EU rules, but the uk government wanted the immigrants.

As to non-EU immigration you make my point, people kick up a fuss about EU immigration but non EU immigration that could have been reduced wasnt, why because the government wanted the in flow from both the EU and externally and has also admitted that they want both to continue at something similar to the current rates.

People can throw in all the barbed comments they want to, the end result is that UKIP succeeded in their aim, what other political party has managed that?

UKIP may have shot itself in the foot on occasion, like other parties, and a small minority may have tried to use it as a cover for racist activity, like other parties, but perhaps the 'proper' and 'respected' parties should try to work out how UKIP got 17.4 million voters to make their voices heard while they couldn't convince over 10 million registered voters it was important enough to even get off their backsides

I think you've summed it up perfectly, they forced the government to listen to the electorate the result of which removed David Cameron from office.

Hurrah and good riddance !

A horrid , racist party led by an imbecile , who is now Trump's BFF , imo and I for one , am glad to see the back of them.

Idiots who claimed to speak " for the people " . Absolute Nonsense

Actually aside from the bad sentence formation his post was on the money.

Look at the current UKIP manifesto which seems to have been written by Nick Griffin. They want to ban the burqha and the niqab. Are they going to do the same with the turban or the Star of David or the crucifix? No of course not.

Farage is an imbercile and is Trump's best buddy. To the point of telling lies when defending the first attempt of a travel ban on public radio (every point he made was rebutted by James Allen using actual sources earlier the same day). Nuttall is even worse. Lying about Hillsborough is completely indefensible.

They spoke for the people. Well no they didn't. Not even all of the 52% who voted leave.

In no wishing to support a racist agenda I will simply state that non of the latter items cover the face.

I personally know a magistrate who was removed from the bench because he would not accept evidence from a person in a full body covering (burka?). He could not even tell if the witness was female let alone see her eyes and facial expressions which are a good guide to truthful statements.

It was slightly over exaggerated, but that doesn't hide how angry UKIP made me feel. Even at our school, teachers spoke similarly about UKIP

It's just the lies and lack of transparency that really annoyed me

I apologise if my post annoyed you, but it is an opinion, one I an entitled to have

Oh for goodness sake, I appreciate that Nigel Farage divides opinion but an imbecile doesn't achieve what he has.

And as you've bought the subject up, why on earth does anybody need to hide their face with a burka? The potential security risks are obvious.

No need to apologise, you are indeed entitled to your opinion although there might be more constructive ways of expressing it.

It's nothing to do with 'need'. It's called personal choice.

And what if I went into a bank with a crash helmet on? Could I claim that was personnel choice? Somebody has already made a good point about a court not accepting evidence from somebody in a burka.

A crash helmet is for protecting the head when on a motorbike. There is no need for it to be worn in a bank.

Just as there is no need for a burka to be worn in a bank.

Your teachers shouldn't be speaking about UKIP or politics (unless it's part of the class!).

Are you of voting age?

Security risks? Please tell me how the niqab is used to circumvent security.

I'm much more bothered at how not seeing a face means I can't read body language. I feel that's a fundamental part of our culture.

Wearing a mask to deliberately conceal your face from others has no place in a civilised society.

So a Muslim woman should take off her clothing to go into a bank?

EDIT - There's no 'need' to wear jeans when it's hot, or flip-flops when it's cold. Shall we ban those too?

Trying to find a teacher who isn't a left wing bore and a complete know-all who talks down to everybody is something that is virtually impossible.

Motorcyclists have to remove their helmets in banks and building societies. I'd want to see evidence that burquas were being used for nefarious purposes before banning them, but I'm sure someone wearing a Guy Fawkes mask in a public building would attract the attention of security in short order.

Only today this little lot were jailed while wearing burqas to disguise themselves during armed robberies.

http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/robbers-dressed-up-burkas-steal-13003217

Robbers who dressed in burkas to disguise themselves as Asian women while carrying out terrifying raids have been jailed. During a 12-month spree the organised crime gang carried out at least 10 raids between June 2015 and June 2016 across Greater Manchester.
Now gang members have been jailed for a total of 130 years.

I look forward to your banning of tights, stockings, wooly hats, bandanas, and Groucho Marx fake noses and glasses.

You seem depressingly bitter from your comments about teachers.

The only thing I think should be banned is face masks in public.
My opinion of teachers is not unusual so must be a lot of bitter people about, It is not your concern.

A rather ludicrous comparison, anybody wearing any of those items might look just a little bit suspicious!

There really is no rational argument for wearing any sort of face mask in a civilised society.

You just said you wouldn't ban the burqa which is even more restrictive than a niqab! It's basically a niqab with a mesh over the eye slit.

I suggest you look up what a burqa is.

You are surely referring to a hijab as the garment you wouldn't ban.

Do you think a person wearing a niqab is as suspicious as someone wearing any of those over their face? Really?

Look, I'm no fan of face coverings and would vote to ban them, but not for the ludicrous "security reasons" people like to dog-whistle around.

Well no, that's exactly my point. Somebody wearing a burka/niqab wouldn't look as suspicious, that's obviously why the robbers in Manchester wore them.

Anyway we seem to be in agreement that face coverings should be banned.

Will be within 1-2 years . Not now though

Tbf , most of our politics department regard UKIP , Farage and Trump as imbeciles , although they do acknowledge that they all pulled off quite a feat in Brexit , US Election etc
