Good evening all,

I was just wondering if anyone had made the jump from the UK to Australia as a train driver and found work etc? I've found posts from years ago but if anyone has any first hand experience whether it's good or bad, successful or a failure and its happened within the last few years then I'd appreciate and advice you might have. TIA

You'd have to go over there and then start again as a trainee.

The days where they recruited British drivers under the skilled worker programme ended well over a decade ago.

I know someone who moved from the UK to New Zealand (he is a dual citizen of both countries) and continued as a train driver over there. He had to start from scratch again. He did over twenty years of driving trains in the UK but in New Zealand they treated him the same as someone who had never driven trains before and he did all the training again from scratch. So i would think all of the operators in Australia are the same. It might look good on your CV if you have been a train driver in the UK (and therefore increase your chance of being hired) but it would be unlikely to give you a fast track to being a train driver in Australia or anything like that.
