when did the sleeper which served the Tyne Loop finish? I think I saw it once but I can't remember when. The Durham coast sleeper was still going in 1979
The Durham coast services carried on as a connecting loco-hauled service for a few years after the through sleepers were stopped. Gateshead would chuck out pretty much anything to work it. Lasted at least into 1982, maybe 83.

Let's not forget the exotic one way sleeper that operated between Glasgow and Aberdeen in the 1980s, a single mk3 placed amongst other mail, parcels and seated stock, and even more bizarrely, returning south coupled between the rearmost coach and the locomotive in the 11am-ish push pull service. They could've upgraded anyone fancying a bit of quiet and a nap...

Wasn't there a sole MK3 SLEP in blue stripe livery.
