The cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe which has left hundreds dead was caused by the UK, an ally of Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has said.

Information Minister Sikhanyiso Ndlovu described the outbreak as a "genocidal onslaught on the people of Zimbabwe by the British".

Yep, of course, it was all us!

I don't know owt about how Cholera works and so I'm not even going to get started on that side of the debate...But what I'd like to know - Considering what the twunt has done to "his" country so far - Is why no-one has had the decency to swing a very sharp and fast-running Chainsaw right into Mugabe's worthless corpse yet? :roll:

Indeed; The Americans have already got rid of Saddam Hussein, and have run Osama Bin-Laden to Death (Or at least permanent hiding)...Surely it makes perfect sense for them to go for the hat-trick?
(And in this case, I'm pretty certain that none of the World community would have an aversion to it...Indeed - In liberating Zimbabwe's population, the U.S. would be doing everyone a favour IMO! 8))

British people can get Cholera. No one is (yet) resistant, although blood groups seem to play a role. V. Cholerae is transmitted faecal-oral, so the two likely causes are a rubbish sewage treatment system or poor hand hygiene.

I'd say, as there are clearly problems with water supply, that's the most likely cause. Of course, poor hand hygiene is also extremely likely, but most British and western aid workers would be able to fully minimise this risk (or so we'd hope).

How anyone can take Mugabe seriously on this is beyond me.

I also can't believe that we have any cause to use Cholera in biological warfare :roll:

Because that would make the people in the country think he is right - The rich white opressing the poor black by assasinating their leader. That's why america hasn't gone on one of it's retarded "freedom" wars there.

As good as eradicated, yes. But it's still commonplace throughout the world. It could quite easily return to the UK and cause widespread infection; and not many Brits would be "immunised" (ie, they've never had it before. The chances are, of course, minimal so don't panic everyone! And, anyway, hygiene in the West is good enough to minimise spread.

It's prevalent throughout the world, though, and it's a pretty nasty condition, especially in Third World countries where hand hygiene is poor and drinking water is extremely poor. Any future epidemic would have little, if any, direct impact on the UK.

I should say, though, that Clostridium Difficile is also spread Feacal-Oral...

IIRC previous epidemics were exacerbated by poor medical knowledge (weren't most deaths caused by dehydration?). Hopefully these days anyone who caught it would receive much better treatment.

Exactly. Most people with diarrhoea know to drink plenty of fluids, whereas in the good old days they probably thought that removing half their blood would solve the problems.

There are also Oral Rehydration Solutions, which enhance water absorption, and antibiotics to kill the bug itself. And immunisation is available. None of these were available when Cholera was rife in the UK.
