Ugly trains

What do you reckon is the ugliest trains. For me if its a modern DMU or EMU they look horrible, especially those adelente units. The old DMUs and EMUs look better than they do now.

For me its got to be the class 460.

It has tobethe southern region EPB's and HAP's. Just along frame suburban Mk1 coach with small windows cut into the front. OntheDMU fron the 205's and Hastings for the same reason, atleastthe 207's had a curve to the front body work.Ugliest coach was Mk1 LFK.

DMU's - it would have to be the class 141's i know they arent used anymore but they were ugly things wern't they.

EMU's then defo the 350's.

Class 313-315 and 507,508 are pretty ugly in my opinion. And the 320-322 series as well.

I disagree with the comment that "all modern units are horrible". There are some ugly ones: 460s come to mind. But I think the 390 and 395s look impressive. And I'd hardly call 334s, 170s, 185s and the like "ugly".

Southern 455's! The absolute worst thing on British metals. I would be embarresed to operate them around the London area. They look atrocious.

I actually like the pacer family and the 15X's.

55's ugly! Impressive machines them are and the 76's.

Like old style EMU'S and most of the deisel loco's, except 58's. Also most of the WCML electric loco's and HST and 91.

Ugliest are defo all the new stuff, especially adelantes and voyagers.
Voyagers are like a step back in long distance travel in my opinion. More like a commuter train.

I agrre I think the EM1/EM2 designs were actually quite nice (body sides did look like a bomb had just exploded in them but class 50's are the same).

The full National Express liveried trains are now posessed by the dark side, and those which are in the temp. livery are slaves to the dark side.

I would have to disagree with the Pacer family suggestions. Sure, horrible in practice but at least they looked nice in appearance.

I will however say the prototypes LEV-1 and the 140 are shockers of the highest order.

15-s also appeal to me, I have more of an issue with 185s (although not bad, they look a bit plain).

Duck-bill noses are never pretty. There's a couple of Shinkansen classes have them, such as the E4:

(incidentally, ugliness doesn't stop a train from being good for what it was designed for- after all, that E4 can do 240km/h, and two coupled together can seat over 1600 people)

Pacers are foul

15x series quite nice, just sound horrible.
442's are impressive looking things IMO and I also think that most southern EMU's are relatively good looking.
